!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Last week the builder asked where he can drill through LVLs (large beams). We gave him the answer. HE was not drilling through LVLs but actually TJI (I shaped floor joists, which luckily have less stringent restrictions) He still managed to fuck it up. I bring this up to my boss and he doesn;t want to talk about it.

if he doesn’t wanna give a fuck why should I? Its times like this when I wanna just walk out and tell my boss to give me a call when he gives a shit.

For electric or plumbing? Don’t they have knock-outs built into them?

yes they do, but this was for a sprinkler line which I think is larger, but still allowed, if you follow the rules.

If the man in charge doesn’t care and the inspector doesn’t notice, it never happened.

I mean, it already passed framing, right? Framing must be fine then. Stop looking at it.

The schedule is the only thing that matters. Focus on those empty coffee cups... hardhats, vests, and fall protection too... Making sure everything is done, on time, without getting fined by osha is job 1. The builder must spend the day chatting in the trailer and bitching on the phone about the subtrades all day. He has no time for what is going on inside the building.

Oh, and they’re delivering drywall tomorrow morning. Plumbing and electrical inspection is tomorrow afternoon. What do you mean they’re nowhere near being done? Whatever, get the firestoppers out here. Insulation inspection is Friday, but we’ll wait till they get here to tell them them...

yea, i dont think framing inspection has been done yet.

Boss guy cares, he just doesn’t want to deal with it. He’s mad that their problems become our problems.

just hiding the problem is a bad thing to do.

i’m thinking (hoping) most of what you said is sarcasm

Yes, all tongue-in- cheek, but seems to the way of the construction world sometimes.

I’m really wondering how you muck up drilling through a tji, but more than that, I wonder how someone managed to become a builder and not know the difference between a tji and a poly-lam.

Take a photo send an email and document the condition. Pretty simple, that at least covers your ass if things get to be an issue down the line.

How are those holes going to get past the inspector? That area of the joist is SPECIFICALLY a no field cut area.

Edit: Also, what builder doesn’t know this? I’m just a DIY guy, and I know this.

Wow right in the spot under the most shear stress. Somebody didn’t take a basic statics class. Those guys are sharp as a cue ball.
